Regenerative Agriculture: Restoring God’s Earth

I admit that before beginning work on this issue, I didn’t know much about regenerative agriculture, save for some snippets gleaned here and there from family members. Perhaps this topic will be new to you as well, or perhaps you have preconceived notions about what regenerative agriculture is. Regardless, after reading these articles, I hope you are left feeling impressed, hopeful, and inspired. I know I was.

All the farmers in this issue came to regenerative agriculture in different ways. For Brother Nick Renner, he saw the depletion and erosion of the soil around the fields of his monastery and decided to trailblaze a new path. For Shawn and Beth Dougherty, they “stumbled” into the practice due to years of frugal farming. In upstate New York, a group of friars established a regenerative farm where young men can live, work, and discern—believing that restoring the soil also rejuvenates the soul. Gabe Brown, a leader in the regenerative ag movement, breaks down regenerative agriculture and why healthy soil is imperative for the common good of society.

As you read these stories, may you find encouragement to try something new (whatever that may be). May you also be led to reflect on God’s perfect design for creation, as well as ponder the ways the Lord works to restore your own soul.
