In this booklet, Stephen Wood has provided a well-tested primer of the “who, what, where, when, why, and hows” of sticking one’s toe into the water of small farming. He begins with theory as well as theology, and particularly, with the complementary commingling of homeschooling and rural life. He then ends with a nice introductory summary, from all the authors he’s read and visited, of a few key steps to take if one feels at least a little moved to venture forward.
Of course, farming and farm life is a vocation like any other. Is it possible God is calling you to consider a simpler life away from the fast-paced, technology-driven, progress-crazed, nature-deprived culture of modern urban living? In the end, it involves praying together with your spouse: Where do you want your family to be in 5, 10, or 20 years? Where do you think our country, our world, is going to be in 5, 10, 20 years, and where do you think the best place for your family will be, come what may?
