INGREDIENTS

Yields 6 to 12 cookies, depending on size of cookie cutter or mold

1 – cup unsalted butter, at room temperature

1/2 – cup sugar

4 – cups sifted all-purpose flour

1 ½ – tsps ground ginger

1/2 – tsp ground cloves

1/4 – tsp ground mace

3/4 – cup dark unsulphured molasses

DIRECTIONS

Preheat the oven to 300 degrees. Lightly grease a baking sheet.

Cream together the butter and sugar in a large mixing bowl with a beater. Sift together the dry ingredients and add alternately with the molasses to the butter mixture. Sprinkle a work surface with flour and roll out the dough to about ¼ inch thick. Cut out the cookies, and gently place them on the prepared sheet. Bake for 45 minutes, or until firm. Cool on a rack.

Gathering around a kitchen table and sharing a meal and conversation together is as important today as it was more than 70 years ago when Florence first wrote Cooking for Christ. We hope the cookbook is a way to celebrate Christ and His saints, feasts and traditions throughout the year while enjoying the bountiful gifts with which He has blessed us. Recipe from CRL’s Cooking for Christ – Your Kitchen Prayerbook, (pg 75)
