In a joint statement released by the National Catholic Rural Life Conference, Catholic Relief Services, United States Conference of Catholic Bishops and Catholic Charities USA, they stated:
Thanks in part to your many e-mails, phone calls, visits and letters, the Senate Agriculture Committee last week passed a 2012 Farm Bill with provisions that the Catholic community strongly supports, including:
  • Adequately funding domestic anti-hunger initiatives that provide emergency food through parishes, food pantries and other community organizations and that provide nutritious food packages for hungry seniors so that our brothers and sisters here in the U.S.
  • Maintaining funding levels for global anti-hunger initiatives and making these resources more flexible and responsive to the needs of our brothers and sisters; and
  • Reducing subsidies and direct payments to large-scale agribusinesses.
The entire statement is attached below.
