“Time for Creation” Around the World

WCC Prayer Resources

The World Council of Churches promotes the period from September 1 (the beginning of the Orthodox church year) to St. Francis’ Feast on October 4 as “Time for Creation”.

This is a devotional time to pray for and with people around the world in the name of the care of Creation. It is a time to realize that ongoing environmental degradation is threatening human welfare, and that climate change will exacerbate weather-related and environmental disasters.

This year, the WCC extends this period to include October 10 (10.10.10) — an international day of action or “Global Work Party” — to reduce carbon emissions and celebrate climate solutions.

The October date is also ten weeks before the next UN Climate Change Conference in Cancun, Mexico, and an opportunity to encourage political leaders to address climate change.
